This wonderful trek is around the snowy Alpamayo combined with the classic circuit of the Cordillera Blanca "Santa Cruz Trek" is designed for those who want to explore the Cordillera Blanca in all its magnitude. A correct acclimatization is important to carry out this beautiful and long hike that joins two important circuits that run through the Los Cedros valley.
During the journey we will come across many blue-turquoise Andean lagoons and several passes over 4,700 m. where we will have amazing and inspiring views of the mountains such as Huascaran, Santa Cruz, Taulliraju and Chacraraju.

Itinerary


Day 1: Huaraz (3100 m.) – Huishcash (4200 m.) Transfer in transport to the town of Hualcayan, from where we will start the hike zigzag up a bridle path to our first Huishcash campsite.

Day 2: Huishcash – Ruinapampa (4400 m)
This day does not expect two very important passes, the Osoruri pass (4860 m.) and the Vientunan pass (4770 m) but first we will have a beautiful view of the Azulcocha and Yanacocha lagoons, then we will pass by the edge of the Cullicocha lagoon (4620 m ).

Day 3: Ruinapampa – Jancarurish (3800m)
This day the hike will be through the Cedros valley and in the direction of the Alpamayo valley from where we will have the most impressive view of the northwest face of Alpamayo (5947 m).
» Hiking time: 4 to 5 hours approx.
» Campsite: Jancarurish (3800 m).


Day 04: Jancarurish – Alpamayo Viewpoint (4450 m) – Jancarurish.
Rest day. Optional we can do a short hike of 3 hours approx. near the Jancarurish lagoon to see the pyramidal figure of Alpamayo (5,947 m.) from this place the photograph was taken with which Alpamayo is considered the "Most Beautiful Mountain in the World"

Day 05: Jancarurish – Huillca (4000 m)
This day we head towards Huillca, for this we will cross the Gara Gara pass (4830 m) and then the Mesapampa pass (4500 m).
» Hiking time: 5 to 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Huillca valley (4300 m)


Day 06: Huillca – Jancapampa (3600 m).
We leave Huillca in the direction of Jancapampa through the Yana Queñua ravine. This day we will cross the Yanacón pass (4,600 m.)

» Campsite: Jancapampa (3600 m)


Day 07: Quebrada Jancapampa – Quishuar (3800 m)
This day we will hike towards the town of Pishgopampa (3600 m) then ascend through the Tingopampa ravine towards the Tupa-tupa pass (4400 m), during our descent we will be able to appreciate the Huecrucocha lagoon.
» Hiking time: 4 to 5 hours approx.
» Campsite: Quishuar (3800 m)


Day 08: Quishuar – Tuctu (4200 m)
We leave from the campsite towards the high pass of Pucaraju (4650 m) from this point we can see the highest mountains of the Cordillera Blanca such as Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Chacraraju and also very close to Taulliraju (5830 m).

» Campsite: Tuctu (4200 m)


Day 09: Tuctu – Taullipampa (4,250 m.)
This day we will cross the Punta Unión pass (4750 m.) from where we will have a wide view of the Santa Cruz ravine and the Taullicocha and Jatuncocha lagoons.
» Hiking time: 5 to 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Taullipampa (4,250 m.)


Day 10: Taullipampa – Llamacorral (3,800 m.)
This day we will hike to the Alpamayo viewpoint from where we will be able to see the South-East face of Alpamayo (5,947 m.) as well as the snow-capped Quitaraju (6040 m). To then pass near the turquoise Jatuncocha lagoon and Ichiccocha lagoon.
» Hiking time: 5 to 6 hours approx.
» Camping: Llamacorral (3,800 m.)


Day 11: Llamacorral – Cashapampa (2900 m) – Huaraz
This last day the hike will follow the Santa Cruz valley parallel to a river with crystalline waters and surrounded by lush vegetation and impressive mountains until we reach the town of Cashapampa (2900 m.) where our transport awaits us to transfer to Huaraz.
» Hiking time: 3 to 4 hours approx.

Included:

  • Transportation: From your hotel in Huaraz to the starting point of the trek, and from the end of the trek to your hotel in Huaraz.
  • Camping equipment: Good quality mountain tents (2 people per tent), mattresses, dining tent, kitchen tent, dishes and kitchen utensils, tables and chairs.
  • Food: Breakfast, lunch and dinner (option for vegetarians or vegans).
  • Guide: Certified trekking guide (English or Spanish) another language by request.
  • Cook: Trained cook to prepare varied and healthy dishes.
  • Arriero: In charge of loading the donkeys and driving them.
  • Donkeys: The number of donkeys depends on the size of the group. You can carry up to 6 kg of personal items that will be loaded onto the donkeys. During the day you will only carry your personal backpack.
  • Emergency horse: 1 horse will accompany the group in case of emergency.
  • First aid kit.

Not Included:

  • Entrance fee to the Huascaran National Park (See Rates )
  • Personal trekking equipment: sleeping bag (it is possible to rent in Huaraz), trekking shoes or boots, waterproof jacket and/or pants, poncho, backpack, flashlight, etc.
  • Additional expenses: as a result of leaving the trek early, as a result of emergency rescue and/or evacuation, extra food or drinks in the villages, medical treatment.
  • Breakfast the first day and dinner the last day.
